RAJIV GANDHI ACADEMY FOR AVIATION TECHNOLOGY - THIRUVANANTHAPURAM


Rajiv Gandhi Academy for Aviation Technology”, Thiruvananthapuram ,
originally established as the “Kerala Flying Club”, was registered under the Indian Companies Act 1956 on 14.07.1959. In 1980, the name“ Kerala Flying Club” was changed to Kerala Aviation Training Centre and later in 1981 the Government of Kerala brought the institution under its direct control. Subsequently with the approval of the Director General of Civil Aviation, KATC was renamed as Rajiv Gandhi Academy for Aviation Technology a Society under the title Travancore Cochin Literary Scientific and Charitable Societies Act 1955. The new set up “Rajiv Gandhi Academy for Aviation Technology “ came into effect from 01.06.2006.
Rajiv Gandhi Academy for Aviation Technology is an institution owned by the Government of Kerala .The prime objective of the Academy is to promote the art and science of flying, gliding and aeronautics in all its aspects and matters incidental to or otherwise connected with. The Academy aims to start College of Engineering in Aeronautical Science and Technology,at a later date.

The erstwhile Kerala Flying Club was founded by Lt Col Goda Varma Raja with the blessings of His Highness, the Maharaja of Travancore. With the founder’s vision of imparting quality flying training, the Flying Club was launched on the 14th of July 1959 at the Trivandrum International Airport. The name was changed to its present name on 01 Jun 2006. From the first Pushpak aircraft to the latest Cessna 172 R, the academy has imparted flying training on various aircraft like Chipmunk, Swati, Cessna 152 A, Hansa etc. With its true to image name “God’s own country” Trivandrum provides an ideal atmosphere and locale for the flying trainees.
AIM OF THE ACADEMY:
i) To promote the art and science of flying, gliding and aeronautics in all its aspects and matters incidental to or otherwise connected therewith.
ii) To start College of Engineering in Aeronautical Science and Technology.
iii) To impart instructions and provide practical training in the art of flying and gliding, and science of aeronautics, and concerned engineering, and all other matters directly or indirectly connected therewith.

ADMISSION PROCEDURE:

Applications are invited from Indian nationals who are interested in a flying career for

(a) Commercial Pilot License training (Ground Classes plus Flying Training) 
(b) Private Pilot License training (Ground Classes plus Flying Training) and 
(C) Ground Classes only (PPL Level)
 Qualification

CPL: Pass with minimum of 45% marks in 10+2 or equivalent (Academic Stream) Mathematics, Physics and English subjects taken from a recognized Board/University. Candidates who have appeared for the exam may also apply, but will have to produce proof of having passed the exam before commencement of flying.
 PPL/Ground Class only: Pass with minimum 60% of marks in STD or Equivalent with English as a subject.

Candidates having degree in Maths, Physics, B.Tech/BE will be given 10% weightage.

Fluency in spoken English will be an added qualification for both CPL and PPL Courses.

 

 Minimum Age

 17 years on 30 June 2013

Duration of training

 (a)  CPL (Ground Classes plus Flying Training): Approx. 3 years
 (b)  PPL (Ground Classes plus Flying Training): Approx. 1 year and
 (c) Ground Classes: PPL Standard Approx. 6 months.

Vacancies/Fees
(a)  CPL (Ground Classes plus Flying Training).
10 seats  (reservation for SC/ST as per Govt. rules)
Approx. Rs. 22.5 lakhs to be paid in installments, as decided by the Academy (Including Rs 50,000/- as Security Deposit to be refunded at the end of flying training).
(b) PPL (Ground Classes plus Flying Training) and Ground Classes only(PPL Level).
5 seats only for PPL/Ground classes only (PPL* Standard) for issue of SPL* & FRTOL*.
 (i) PPL (Ground Classes plus Flying Training) : Approx. Rs. 7.19 lakhs to be paid in installments, as decided by the Academy (Including Rs 50,000/- as Security Deposit to be refunded at the end of flying training).
(ii) Ground Classes only (PPL Level).
Rs. 50,000/- per trainee to be paid in one installment.

Fees for both (a) & (b) do not include DGCA Examination/Licence Fees.
  
Procedure for admission

(a)  CPL (Ground Classes plus Flying Training).
(b)PPL (Ground Classes plus Flying Training) and
(C) Ground Classes (PPL level) only.
 Written test and Interview will be common to (a), (b) and (c). Successful candidates will be required to undergo a DGCA medical examination. 
A written test (objective type) comprising Physics, Maths, English, Geography, IQ and General Awareness (including aviation) will be conducted. The duration of the test will be three hours. Candidates securing a minimum of 50% marks in the written test will be called for interview. Candidates who are successful in written test and interview will be required to undergo a Pilot Aptitude Test.
 A merit list will be prepared subsequent to the medical exam.

 (a)  Thiruvananthapuram International Airport and other airports as   required
(b)  Ground Classes will be conducted at Thiruvananthapuram

 Application form
 Application form can be downloaded from the Academy’s website (www.rajivgandhiacademyforaviationtechnology.org) and submitted along with a Demand Draft for Rs. 1000/- in favour of the Executive Vice Chairman, Rajiv Gandhi Academy for Aviation Technology, Thiruvananthapuram, payable at Thiruvananthapuram. Applications received without the Demand Draft will not be considered.

 Training
Flying training will comprise minimum of 200 hrs for CPL and 60 hrs for PPL on aircraft  of the Academy plus ground classes. Training on Simulators will be provided, when simulators are available, on payment of extra fees.
The trainees admitted for Ground Classes only, after completion of the course and passing the required DGCA exam, will be issued SPL&FRTOL with which they will be able to join other training institutes/ flying clubs in India for flying training. They will be given preference for admission for flying in this Academy as and when vacancies arise.
